Financial website Bloomberg, reports that Sony are going to reveal an updated Playstation Portable on the 27th of January, that report can be read here.

27th of January 2011(Japan Time)
SCE hold a press conference, where they reveal a new hand-held console, which they call NGP(Next Generation Portable)
Here is a quote from the conference:

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced its next generation portable entertainment system (codename: NGP), which delivers the ultimate portable entertainment experience. NGP will make its debut at the end of the year 2011.

NGP is designed to offer unparalleled interactive entertainment that is only possible on PlayStation®. This new system offers a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context, made possible by leveraging SCE’s experience from both PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) and PlayStation®3 (PS3®) entertainment systems.

Deep and immersive gaming is at the core of PlayStation’s DNA, and NGP is the latest embodiment of this vision. By having both Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity, together with various applications, NGP will enable infinite possibilities for users to “encounter,” “connect,” “discover,” “share” and “play” with friends wherever they are. Within the device are a range of features that provide a genuinely cutting-edge, next generation ultimate portable entertainment experience.

Rumours emerge that the new handheld device from Sony, is to be called “PS Vita”, this was found out via a leaked E3 manual:

Today, is the most exciting event on a gamers calendar, the E3 event, this is where Console manufactures and game makers showcase their products.
Sony showcased the NGP, which they have decided to call, as rumours suggested, “PS Vita”.

ShopTo a website that sells consoles, has posted on its site the release date for the PS Vita, whilst Sony have rubbished these rumours, the entire internet is reporting that ShopTo has “leaked” the date.

The US version of the Internet Shopping Website Amazon, has posted the 31st of December 2011 as the release date, whilst the UK version of Amazon dosnt have a date, just the price.

15th Of September 2011
At TGS 2011, Sony reveals quite exciting information on their PS Vita, they reveal that the release date(Japan) will be December 17th 2011, the console will be released in three flavours,

  • PCH-1100 AA01 – Crystal Black initial limited edition – WiFi/3G – 500,000 units only – 29,980 yen (including tax).
  • PCH-1100 AB01 – Crystal Black limited edition – WiFi/3G – 29,980 yen (including tax).
  • PCH-1000 ZA01 – Crystal Black – WiFi – 24,980 yen (including tax).

The battery capacity is somewhat lacking, with only 23-5 hours between charge, which isn’t great for long journeys, that’s basically it, i will post some images and video’s.

The very same day the PS Vita is released, teck4 a Japanese PSP developer finds an exploit in the built in PSP emulator on the Vita, he creates a “Hello World”.

Sony release a mandatory update for the PS Vita (Version 1.51)

30th of December 2011
An anonymous developer shows a new “Hello World” on the PS Vita, using a different method than teck4’s.

31st of December 2011
PSP developer Wololo gets Doom running on the PS Vita.
